A network of Libraries and Library Access Points

We are a Library Access Point and it is our aim to provide as full a library service as we can within the limits of our budget.  We have access to the very large selection of books and media items held in the County's central stock and we try to meet individual requests as they are made.

An outline of the report to the Parish Council

Library Access Point Report to the PARISH COUNCIL

21st April 2009

  • In our 6th year

  • Open 8½ hours per week

  • Enrolling an average of 10 new members per month

  • The only outside monetary funding is provided by the Parish Council, a commitment for which we are very grateful, it represents a dedicated pledge that, once more, we want to acknowledge publicly

  • Although there is no cash commitment from the County it does provide a book supply service and an Information Technology service plus back-up provision.  Maintenance of the system is considerable, and this is an unavoidable cost which we do not have to bear.

  • The Friends of the Book Café provide support through their continued contributions and collective interest.

  • We hold our regular fund raising and social activities at the Limes

    1. Film night
    2. Quiz Evening
    3. Book Sales
    4. Curry Evening
    5. Wine Tasting

  • We have 28 volunteers – without their help the LAP would not be able to function as efficiently as it does.

Changes

  • We are undergoing a change of provision of books: this will see us making available more best-sellers as well as new publications earlier than has previously been the case

  • A further change involves no fees for requested books – something we have been urging upon the County Library Service since our inception

  • A very welcome change is that proof of identity requirements have been eased which mean that only one proof of address is required to enrol new members

Presented by the LAP Coordinator - Lorna Bell

The Book Cafe so far......

The Book Cafe was opened after the closure of the village Branch Library at the Village College.  Established as a Library Access Point we depend upon volunteer help and funding from a variety of sources.  At present we are housed in the old school buildings on the High Street - now called, The Limes - a community facility provided for the village by South Cambridgeshire District Council.
